The Chief Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission at Enyan Maim in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District has cautioned President John Dramani Mahama against involving Ghana in the ongoing Iran-Israel tensions, stressing that the country lacks the capacity to engage in such a conflict.
Speaking in an interview with Channel 247 News during Ramadan, Alhaji Muhammed Suleman urged the President and national leaders to maintain neutrality, warning that any attempt to interfere in the escalating situation between Iran, Israel, and the United States could have serious consequences for Ghana.
He noted that Ghana does not possess the military or economic strength to withstand the potential fallout of such a conflict, adding that the country could face significant hardship if tensions worsen. According to him, early signs of the impact are already being felt, particularly with rising fuel prices, which could trigger further economic strain across various sectors.
The Imam also expressed concern about the safety of Ghanaian Muslims preparing for Hajj, stating that the instability in the Middle East has heightened fear among pilgrims planning to travel to Mecca.
He called for peace and urged all parties involved in the conflict to pursue dialogue instead of violence. Additionally, he advised Ghanaian Muslims to uphold the values of Islam by promoting unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
Other Muslim leaders in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District echoed similar sentiments, urging the youth to avoid reckless behaviour, particularly dangerous motorbike riding, which they say continues to result in preventable deaths.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Andrews Kojo Duodu, appealed to Muslims to observe Ramadan responsibly. He emphasised the need to avoid incidents that could lead to casualties, stressing his commitment to the safety and well-being of residents in the district.
He further called on the Muslim community to pray for the President and the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, while assuring them of his continued support for Muslim communities in the area.
