The Confédération Africaine de Volleyball (CAVB) has extended its congratulations to AIPS President Gianni Merlo following his reelection to lead the International Sports Press Association.
In a formal message dated April 16, 2026, and issued from Rabat, CAVB President Bouchra Hajij praised Merlo’s continued leadership, describing it as a reflection of the confidence and respect he has earned from sports journalists across the globe.
She commended AIPS for its commitment to promoting sport through professional, ethical and passionate media coverage, noting that the association has played a key role in strengthening sports journalism worldwide.
The African volleyball governing body also acknowledged the longstanding partnership between CAVB and AIPS, highlighting the contribution of sports journalists in amplifying the voices of African athletes and increasing the visibility of volleyball on the continent.
According to Hajij, the collaboration between the two bodies has helped showcase African tournaments and inspire a new generation of athletes.
CAVB further expressed its readiness to deepen ties with AIPS during Merlo’s new term, with a shared goal of raising the profile of volleyball in Africa and ensuring broader global recognition for athletes’ achievements.
