The Sumankwaahen of the Ekumfi Traditional Area, Nana Otwer Koko Nyeiku VII, has attributed the slow pace of development in the Ekumfi Constituency to persistent partisan politics and frequent changes in political leadership.
According to the traditional leader, the regular turnover of Members of Parliament after elections continues to disrupt ongoing projects and undermines long-term development planning in the area. He stressed that consistency in leadership is crucial for sustaining progress and attracting opportunities that benefit the constituency.
Nana Otwer Koko Nyeiku VII made these remarks during the 10th anniversary commemoration of the late Nana Enoo Mutaku II, Mankrado of Ekumfi Essarkyir, held on April 9, 2026.
He urged residents to place greater emphasis on competence and continuity when making electoral choices, rather than voting strictly along party lines. In his view, constant political changes often lead to the abandonment of initiatives started by previous officeholders, ultimately delaying growth.
The chief also underscored the need for stronger collaboration among political leaders, traditional authorities, and community members to drive meaningful development across the constituency.
Touching on local economic efforts, he highlighted the impact of community-based events in promoting tourism and generating income. He cited the Gomoa Easter Carnival as an example of how such initiatives can stimulate economic activity and create opportunities for residents.
He further acknowledged steps taken by the Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, particularly the introduction of “EkuFest” in 2025, and encouraged the public to support efforts aimed at expanding its benefits.
Responding to the concerns, Dr. Kwainoe indicated that plans are in place to restructure the festival to enhance its long-term impact, especially in the area of job creation and sustainable livelihoods.
Nana Otwer Koko Nyeiku VII concluded by paying tribute to the late Nana Enoo Mutaku II, describing him as a committed and selfless leader whose legacy continues to inspire unity and development within the Ekumfi Traditional Area.
