A four-year-old boy has died, while his elder brother is in critical condition, following the collapse of a mud structure during a heavy downpour at Awutu Papaase in the Central Region.
The deceased, identified as Godsway Nuchuga, was trapped under debris when the building gave way late Tuesday night at Awutu Papaase Number One in the Awutu Senya West District. His elder brother, Seth Nuchuga, 35, sustained severe injuries in the incident.
According to reports gathered by Channel 247 News, the victims were asleep when the structure collapsed after hours of intense rainfall.
The Awutu Senya West District NADMO Coordinator, Salifu Adams, confirmed the incident in an interview, stating that residents rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the victims from the rubble. The young boy was, however, pronounced dead shortly after he was pulled from the debris.
Mr. Adams said the injured brother has been transported to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, where he is currently receiving treatment.
He cautioned residents, particularly those living in weak or dilapidated structures, to take precautionary measures as the rainy season intensifies.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Winneba Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
