The Chief Executive Officer of the C-Quansah Foundation, Charles Quansah, has called for collective action to tackle unemployment in the Cape Coast South Municipality of the Central Region.
According to him, rising unemployment continues to affect many energetic young people in the region, limiting their ability to build sustainable livelihoods. He stressed that addressing the challenge should not be left to government alone, but must involve stakeholders, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropists.
Mr Quansah noted that skills development remains one of the most effective ways to reduce unemployment. He explained that his foundation has already trained over 200 unemployed youth in various vocational fields, including hairdressing, makeup, wig installation, nail technology, fashion styling, and other beauty-related trades.
He said the initiative is aimed at making beneficiaries self-reliant and economically productive. “Seeing young people without jobs in Cape Coast is deeply worrying, and that is why we are committed to equipping them with practical skills,” he stated.
As part of ongoing efforts, the foundation is extending its skills training support to more youth within the Cape Coast South Municipality. Mr Quansah also appealed to other organisations to support the initiative to help expand its reach and impact.
Beneficiaries of the programme, who spoke to Channel 247 News, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. They described unemployment in the area as a serious concern and called on government to intensify job creation efforts.
They further indicated that the skills training programme would help reduce dependency and improve livelihoods, pledging to make good use of the knowledge acquired while also passing it on to others in their communities.
