Al Ahly Sporting Club’s women’s volleyball team delivered a dominant performance to defeat Ethiopia’s National Alcohol 3-0 in their opening match of the 2026 African Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Cairo on April 13.
Playing in front of an energetic home crowd, Al Ahly asserted control from the outset, showcasing superior coordination, power, and tactical discipline. The Egyptian side left little room for their opponents to settle, dictating the pace and rhythm of the game from the first serve.
The opening set proved to be a one-sided contest, as Al Ahly’s aggressive attacking play and solid defensive structure overwhelmed National Alcohol. The hosts cruised to a commanding 25-4 victory, setting the tone for the rest of the encounter.
Al Ahly maintained their intensity in the second set, executing precise attacking plays while neutralizing any attempts by the Ethiopian side to mount a comeback. National Alcohol struggled to cope with the sustained pressure, allowing the hosts to extend their dominance.
The third set followed a similar script, with Al Ahly continuing to outclass their opponents in all departments. They sealed the set 25-9, completing a comprehensive straight-sets victory and sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
The emphatic win gives Al Ahly an early advantage in Pool A and signals their strong intent to compete for a record-extending 11th continental title.
