Agradaa to pay GH¢100k to Empress Gifty over defamation

An Accra High Court has brought closure to the defamation suits involving gospel artiste Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye and controversial evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Agradaa, after both parties agreed to an out-of-court settlement.

The agreement, which has been entered as a consent judgment, was adopted on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, by the Tema Land Court and the Tema Main Court, officially ending the two cases.

Under the settlement terms, Agradaa is to pay Empress Gifty a total of GH¢100,000 to cover legal costs and related expenses. The amount represents a sharp reduction from the GH¢40 million damages earlier pursued by the gospel singer.

Beyond the financial compensation, Agradaa has undertaken to publicly withdraw the statements that triggered the legal action and to render an unreserved apology to Empress Gifty. Arrangements have also been made for the removal of the disputed content from various social media platforms.

The lawsuits, filed in May and June 2025, arose from publications by Evangelist Asiedua which Empress Gifty argued were injurious to her character and public image. At the time, she sought substantial damages, a permanent restraining order against further defamatory comments, and full recovery of legal expenses.

Confirming the development, a statement signed by Agradaa’s lawyer, Richard Asare Baffour, noted that the adoption of the settlement by the courts marks a final and binding resolution of the dispute between the parties.
