The much-anticipated second edition of the Thomas Partey Tournament kicked off on Monday at the Tuba AstroTurf in Accra, reaffirming Arsenal and Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey’s dedication to grassroots football development in Ghana.
This year’s tournament brings together 12 youth teams from various regions across the country. More than just a competition, the event offers a golden opportunity for these young, promising talents to showcase their skills in front of both local and international scouts.
Scouts from Ghana and Europe are attending the four-day tournament, creating a crucial platform for identifying the next generation of Ghanaian football stars. Thomas Partey’s initiative is not only about sport but also about nurturing dreams and providing real exposure to talents who may otherwise go unnoticed.
Among the international scouts present is Emilio Julian Fernandez Gonzalo from JJ Managers, who lauded the organisation of the tournament and the impressive level of football displayed. He praised the physicality, intensity, and distinctive style of the Ghanaian players, noting that several have already drawn significant interest.
“Ghanaian players are always very hard, very intense, with great physicality for this age. When they come to Europe, they’re a little ahead of the Europeans,” Gonzalo said.
Samuel Zigah, publicist for Thomas Partey, also expressed his satisfaction with the level of competition, highlighting that the tournament has grown significantly since its debut. He revealed that the number of participating players has been expanded this year to scout even more talent.
“The first day has been impressive. The opening matches were very competitive. This is exactly what we want when we bring in scouts from Europe,” Zigah noted.
He further pointed out the tournament’s success story: the inaugural edition saw eight players travel abroad to join clubs in Spain, Portugal, and Greece. Expectations are even higher this year, with hopes that more young players will secure opportunities overseas.
The grand finale of the Thomas Partey Tournament is scheduled for Friday, June 13, and anticipation continues to build as the event unfolds.
