The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the implementation of revised fees and charges for Ghana Card registration and related services, effective Monday, February 2, 2026.
The adjustment follows parliamentary approval of the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Regulations, 2025 (L.I. 2512), passed in November 2025 in accordance with the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2022 (Act 1080).
In a press release dated January 26, 2026, the NIA explained that the review was necessary to reflect prevailing economic and operational conditions, noting that the last approved fee structure was implemented in 2023. According to the Authority, operating costs have risen over the past two years without corresponding fee adjustments.
The NIA cited key cost drivers such as technology licensing, cybersecurity services, utilities, logistics, and personnel expenses, describing them as largely non-reversible despite recent exchange rate stabilisation.
Under the new structure, first-time registration at NIA district offices remains free for persons below 25 years, while applicants aged 25 years and above will pay GH¢30. Card replacement and record updates involving card replacement will attract a fee of GH¢200, while card renewal will cost GH¢150.
For premium services, first-time registration at NIA Premium Centres will cost GH¢410, with card replacement set at GH¢520. Fees for foreign nationals under the Foreigner Identification Management System (FIMS) have also been revised, with first-time registration pegged at the cedi equivalent of US$120.
The Authority assured the public that the revised fees would be applied transparently and responsibly, stressing that the Ghana Card has become critical national infrastructure requiring sustainable financing.
According to the NIA, the fee adjustments are aimed at strengthening the national identity system to support governance, service delivery, financial inclusion, and national development.
