The Eastern Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended the Oda Constituency Communication Officer, Agbesi Benjamin, over allegations of misconduct linked to a widely circulated audio recording.
According to the party, the alleged audio captures Mr. Agbesi discouraging a new party convert from joining the NDC conduct the regional leadership says is inappropriate for a party communications officer.
In a statement issued after a virtual meeting held on January 21, 2026, the REC said the matter had attracted the attention of the regional leadership following reports of repeated acts of misconduct attributed to the officer.
“The attention of the Eastern Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the Party has been drawn to various acts of misconduct attributed to you,” the letter stated. It added that the most recent incident involves an audio in which Mr. Agbesi is allegedly heard discouraging a new convert from joining the NDC, which the party described as “the most attractive political party in Africa in recent times.”
Following deliberations at its virtual meeting, the REC said it resolved to suspend Mr. Agbesi from his position in line with Article 48 of the party’s constitution and to refer the matter to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for further adjudication.
The suspension takes immediate effect, and Mr. Agbesi has been directed to hand over all party property in his possession to the Constituency Secretary.
“You are therefore suspended from your position as the Constituency Communications Officer with immediate effect,” the letter emphasized.
The REC further indicated that the Regional Disciplinary Committee will invite Mr. Agbesi to appear before it for a hearing, after which the committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations to the regional executive for further action.
