DRIP machines were faulty before I assumed office – Assin Fosu MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Assin Fosu in the Central Region, Hon. Adam Gariba, has clarified that District Road Improvement Project (DRIP) machines in the municipality were already damaged before he assumed office.

Speaking in an interview with Channel 247 News, the MCE dismissed claims by some residents that he has failed to utilize the machines, allowing them to rust at the premises of the Municipal Assembly.

According to Hon. Gariba, the equipment requires extensive repairs before it can be deployed for road construction works. He said a detailed report on the condition of the machines has been submitted to the Regional Minister and the National DRIP Coordinator, who have since directed that the necessary repairs be carried out.

The MCE disclosed that all official communications and documentation have been sent to the assigned DRIP mechanic, but the mechanic is yet to respond. He expressed concern that the delay in repairs is causing further deterioration of the machines, even as several roads within the municipality remain in a deplorable state.

Hon. Gariba noted that traditional authorities and other stakeholders have made several requests for the machines to be released for road works, but said this is not possible in their current condition. He also revealed that the Assembly is yet to appoint a new DRIP coordinator.

He therefore rejected allegations that he is deliberately allowing the machines to rot, stressing that the situation is beyond his control. The MCE assured residents that once repairs are completed, the machines will be put to use to improve roads across the municipality.
