Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) participating in today’s presidential primary were welcomed with breakfast courtesy of the campaign team of aspirant Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, as voting officially commenced across the country.
The early-morning gesture, according to members of the Agyapong camp, was intended to motivate supporters and create a positive atmosphere ahead of the crucial exercise. Delegates arriving at various polling centres expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and morale-boosting.
The NPP is conducting the primary at more than 300 designated polling centres nationwide, with accredited delegates casting ballots to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. The contest has attracted several high-profile aspirants, including Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and former party executive Kwabena Agyepong.
Security at the polling centres has been placed solely under the supervision of the Ghana Police Service, following a directive by the party’s Presidential Elections Committee. The arrangement is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly and credible process throughout the day.
As of mid-morning, voting was reported to be proceeding smoothly in most centres, with party officials expressing confidence in a transparent outcome. The NPP leadership has urged delegates to adhere strictly to the rules governing the exercise and maintain unity regardless of the final results.
