A bus carrying passengers from Bawku in the Upper East Region has been attacked by gunmen at Wulugu in the North East Region, leaving several passengers injured.
The incident occurred while the bus was traveling along the Bolgatanga–Tamale highway. Eyewitnesses say the vehicle was ambushed by armed men who opened fire, triggering panic and confusion among passengers on board.
Some of the passengers sustained gunshot wounds, with a number of them reported to be in serious condition. The injured have since been rushed to nearby health facilities for medical treatment.
Passengers have expressed shock and frustration over what they described as the absence of police presence on the stretch of road from Bawku to the scene of the attack.
“No single police officer was seen on the road. It’s like they were nowhere to be found when we needed them most,” one passenger said.
Meanwhile, other passengers who escaped injury are currently at the Wulugu Police Station assisting with investigations as security agencies work to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
