The Ga Traditional Council has announced that the month-long ban on noise-making will officially be lifted on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
The annual ban, a key cultural practice observed in the Greater Accra Region, forms part of the traditional rites leading up to the Homowo Festival. It prohibits drumming, loud music, and other noise-related activities to allow for spiritual cleansing and quiet reflection by the Ga people.
With the lifting of the ban, the Homowo season will formally begin, ushering in a series of traditional ceremonies and community celebrations.
The Council in a statement called on residents and event organizers to respect the cultural significance of the occasion and to celebrate responsibly.
Security agencies are expected to collaborate with local authorities to ensure peace and order during the festivities.
