Free eye-care outreach launched in North Dayi constituency

Residents of the North Dayi Constituency are set to benefit from a three-day free eye-care outreach programme scheduled from April 13 to April 15, 2026.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for the area, Joycelyn Quashie, in collaboration with Lifetime Wells Vision and Friends Eye Centre, aims to provide free eye screening, treatment and minor surgical procedures to residents across several communities.

The outreach forms part of efforts to improve access to quality eye care services, particularly in underserved communities where preventable vision impairment remains a concern.

The exercise will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at designated centres across the constituency. On Monday, April 13, services will be provided at Anfoega Lorry Park, Wusuta Central and Vakpo Post Office. On Tuesday, April 14, the team will be at Tsoxor Community Centre, Botoku Community Centre and Tsrukpe Tota Post Office. The final day, Wednesday, April 15, will cover Sabadu Community Centre, Aveme Danyigba Football Park and Awate Agame Community Centre.

Speaking ahead of the programme, Ms Quashie underscored the importance of early detection and treatment of eye conditions, noting that many cases of vision impairment could be prevented with timely medical intervention.

She urged residents, particularly the elderly and those experiencing vision challenges, to take advantage of the opportunity to access professional eye care at no cost.

Health professionals from the partnering organisations are expected to provide consultations, distribute medications and perform minor eye surgeries where necessary. Community members have been encouraged to report early and adhere to guidelines to ensure a smooth and successful exercise.

The outreach reflects a growing commitment by stakeholders to bridge healthcare gaps and promote improved well-being across the constituency.
