A day-old baby girl has been rescued after she was found abandoned in a bush at Bronyibima Estate near Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality.
The infant was discovered on Tuesday afternoon, February 17, 2026, by a local rabbit farmer who had gone out to gather feed for his animals. According to reports by Channel 247 journalist Yaw Boagyan, the farmer initially heard faint cries, which he thought were coming from an animal.
However, upon closer inspection, he was shocked to find a newborn baby girl wrapped in cloth and placed inside a polythene bag in the bush near a private school.
The farmer quickly raised an alarm, attracting residents in the area who rushed to assist. Recognising the urgency of the situation, community members immediately transported the infant to the Bronyibima Hospital for medical attention.
Medical personnel at the facility are currently caring for the baby, who is reported to be in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Department of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality has taken custody of the child and will oversee her welfare while investigations continue.
The case has also been reported to the Ghana Police Service, which has launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for abandoning the infant.
Authorities have urged the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation, while also reminding parents and guardians of the importance of seeking support during difficult circumstances rather than abandoning children.
