A member of the New Vision Movement, Emmanuel Semordzi, has downplayed the significance of Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s victory in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries, arguing that it does not represent meaningful change for Ghanaians.
Speaking on Channel 247’s Breakfast 247, Semordzi questioned the impact of the NDC’s internal electoral success, insisting that winning a primary does not automatically translate into improved governance or national development.
According to him, the NDC has spent a considerable period in government, and many of its leading figures, including Asiedu Nketia, have been part of that administration over the years. He argued that this raises concerns about what new ideas or solutions such candidates can offer.
“The reason I said winning the primary does not mean anything to us in the New Vision Movement is that the NDC has led this country for a long time,” he stated. “Those contesting have been part and parcel of that government for years, so what difference are they bringing now?”
Semordzi further challenged the credibility of campaign promises often made during such contests, questioning why proposed solutions were not implemented earlier when these individuals were in positions of influence.
He suggested that Ghanaians are increasingly demanding tangible results rather than political rhetoric, adding that leadership hopefuls must demonstrate clear, practical plans to improve living conditions.
The comments come amid heightened political activity following recent primary elections, as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of future national polls.
