The Paramount Chief of the Ajumako Traditional Council, Okukurdurfo Kwamena Hammah Ababio, has been accused of disregarding an interlocutory injunction issued by the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs over the installation of an Omankrado at Ajumako Entumbil in the Central Region.
According to the Ajumako Entumbil Odikro, the injunction was in force at the time an installation was allegedly carried out under the direction of the Omanhene, an action he described as contemptuous of the authority of the National House of Chiefs and contrary to customary law.
Ajumako Entumbil has for some time been embroiled in a chieftaincy dispute, which is currently before the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs. The Odikro, Nana Krampah IV, says efforts had been made to maintain peace and harmony in the community while the matter is being resolved through legal and traditional channels.
However, he alleges that despite the pending case, the Omanhene went ahead to secretly install Nana Kojo Yeboah as Omankrado of Ajumako Entumbil without the knowledge or consent of the Odikro and the community elders. He insists that the alleged installation violates the norms and traditions of the Ajumako Traditional Council.
The Odikro further claims that the Omanhene had demanded GH¢45,000 as part of customary processes, of which GH¢23,000, four boxes of foreign schnapps and four bottles of Red Label were presented. He alleges that after making the part payment, the installation was nonetheless carried out in a manner he describes as unlawful and deceptive.
Raising concerns about potential unrest, the Odikro has called on the National House of Chiefs and the Central Regional House of Chiefs to intervene urgently to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the community.
“There cannot be two Odikro in one community at the same time. If this situation is not addressed, it could lead to chaos,” he warned.
The Paramount Chief, Okukurdurfo Kwamena Hammah Ababio, is yet to publicly respond to the allegations but is said to be preparing a formal response in due course.
Meanwhile, residents and opinion leaders in Ajumako Entumbil have appealed for calm as the matter remains under consideration by the appropriate traditional and judicial authorities.
