Three people have been left critically injured and property destroyed after more than 50 suspected land guards stormed Gomoa Maim in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region during a community celebration.
The incident occurred while residents were jubilating over a chieftaincy ruling when the armed group reportedly invaded the gathering, wielding guns, cutlasses, sticks, and other weapons.
Ebusuapanyin Kofi Botwey, addressing the media at a press conference, said the attackers disrupted the peaceful event and unleashed violence on residents. According to him, the group vandalised the chief’s palace and surrounding properties, leaving three individuals severely injured in the process.
“This is the first time such a violent incident has occurred in our community,” he stated, expressing concern over the safety of residents.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers allegedly came from Kasoa and began firing gunshots upon arrival, throwing the area into chaos and forcing people to flee for their lives.
“The whole place became chaotic. People were running in all directions to save themselves,” one eyewitness recounted, adding that fear has since gripped the community.
The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Esuohyia Hospital.
Mr Botwey has appealed to the Central Regional Police Command, the Regional Minister, and the Inspector General of Police to deploy security personnel to the area to restore calm and protect residents.
Residents have also called for swift intervention from authorities, including traditional leaders, to prevent further escalation of tensions linked to the chieftaincy dispute.
The case has been reported to the Gomoa Ngresi Police Station for investigation. However, no arrests have been made as of now.
