Pastors, worshippers flee as landguards disrupt Easter convention

Chaos broke out at an Easter convention of the Church of Pentecost in Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region after suspected landguards stormed the venue, forcing pastors and congregants to flee for safety.

The incident occurred at the Nyanyano Chief’s Palace, where the church had organised a special Easter gathering. Eyewitness accounts indicate that a group of men, believed to be landguards and riding on motorbikes, suddenly invaded the premises, causing panic and bringing the service to an abrupt halt.

Sources say the church had invited two rival chiefs in the area as part of efforts to maintain neutrality amid an ongoing chieftaincy dispute. However, only one faction reportedly attended, a development believed to have triggered the violent disruption by the opposing side.

Police from the Kasoa Central East Regional Command swiftly responded to distress calls and moved to the scene to restore order, preventing the situation from escalating further. No injuries were immediately reported.

As of the time of filing this report, leadership of the Church of Pentecost in Gomoa Nyanyano has not issued an official statement on the incident.

Tensions in the area remain high following the death of Nana Wiabo V, with the chieftaincy dispute still unresolved. In response to the unrest, the Gomoa Nyanyano Police Commander has imposed a ban on all public gatherings to maintain law and order.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
