NPP-USA aspirant urges diaspora support for Bawumia campaign

A chairman aspirant of the United States branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), James Owusu, has called on members of the Ghanaian diaspora to mobilise resources in support of the party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia.

In an interview Mr. Owusu emphasised the strategic importance of diaspora involvement in strengthening the NPP’s electoral prospects ahead of the next general elections. He noted that Ghanaians living abroad possess significant human, financial and logistical resources that could play a decisive role if properly coordinated.

According to him, the party’s external branches, particularly in the United States, must intensify efforts to contribute meaningfully towards securing victory for Dr. Bawumia. He stressed that the diaspora has long been a pillar of the NPP’s support base, but added that a more structured and strategic approach is needed as the 2028 polls approach.

Mr. Owusu explained that diaspora members should move beyond symbolic support and focus on organised mobilisation of expertise, funding and operational logistics. He pointed out that many Ghanaians abroad have professional skills and networks that could be leveraged for campaign messaging, voter outreach and policy advocacy.

He further highlighted the potential for diaspora members to promote Dr. Bawumia’s achievements on the global stage, particularly in areas such as digitalisation, financial inclusion and economic reforms. These, he said, provide a strong foundation for the party’s campaign narrative.

Outlining his vision, Mr. Owusu said his bid to lead the NPP-USA branch is aimed at strengthening ties between the party’s leadership in Ghana and its supporters abroad. He indicated that effective leadership within the diaspora structures would be crucial in ensuring sustained engagement and coordination.

He also underscored the need for unity within the party’s external branches, noting that cohesion would be key to presenting a strong front ahead of the elections. According to him, collaboration among diaspora chapters would enhance their impact and align their activities with the party’s broader strategic goals.

Mr. Owusu urged Ghanaian professionals, entrepreneurs and students abroad to actively participate in the party’s political activities and contribute their expertise. He expressed confidence that with effective organisation and commitment, the diaspora could become a powerful force in the NPP’s campaign strategy.

He maintained that the combined efforts of party members at home and abroad would be essential in securing victory for Dr. Bawumia, adding that the diaspora’s support would remain a critical component of the party’s success in 2028.
