Ekumfi neglected for years, paramount chief laments

The Paramount Chief of the Ekumfi Traditional Area, Odeefuo Akyin, has decried what he describes as years of neglect of the Ekumfi District , despite the area having produced both a president and a vice president for Ghana.

Addressing chiefs and executives of the, National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency, Odeefuo Akyin expressed concern that the district remains underdeveloped even though it is widely regarded as a stronghold of the party.

According to him, successive governments have failed to prioritise the development needs of the area, particularly its deteriorating road network. He lamented that roads within the district are in deplorable condition, making transportation and economic activities difficult for residents.

The chief noted that several press conferences, demonstrations and petitions have been organised over the years to demand road construction and rehabilitation, but these efforts have yet to yield results.

He further highlighted the lack of a modern market facility for traders, who are compelled to sell their goods under harsh weather conditions. He described the situation as unacceptable and called for immediate intervention to improve trading conditions in the district.

Odeefuo Akyin appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency fix the roads and support the construction of a market centre. He revealed that a large parcel of land has already been allocated for the proposed market project.

He stressed that previous administrations had not taken Ekumfi’s concerns seriously and urged the current government to demonstrate commitment through tangible development projects.

Responding to the concerns, National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, assured the gathering that the challenges facing the district would be addressed.

His assurance forms part of his ongoing thank-you tour of the Central Region, where he has been engaging party faithful and reiterating the party’s commitment to fulfilling its manifesto promises following the 2024 general elections.
