The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold its presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with five aspirants vying for the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2026 general elections.
As the contest draws closer, the Ho Central Vice Chairman of the party, Bismark Elorm Akuamoah, has openly endorsed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the party and steer Ghana’s development agenda.
Speaking ahead of the crucial internal election, Mr. Akuamoah said Dr. Bawumia possesses the vision, competence and unifying leadership needed to consolidate the party’s gains and appeal to the wider Ghanaian electorate. He stressed that the NPP remains a principled party whose delegates are guided by ideas and performance rather than monetary inducements.
According to him, the party’s internal democratic processes cannot be influenced by vote buying, insisting that delegates will base their decisions on the credibility and vision of the candidates.
“We’ve said across the campaign period that the party is not for sale. The party is not for the highest bidder. What is important is who has the ideas to transform the country and improve the lives of party members, and we believe Dr. Bawumia has those ideas,” he stated.
Mr. Akuamoah further highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s record in public service, noting that after more than 16 years in government, including his tenure as Vice President, no corruption allegations have been successfully leveled against him.
“Despite his long years in public service, no single allegation has stuck. This is a man we believe Ghanaians can trust and rally behind,” he added.
He concluded by urging all delegates to conduct themselves peacefully during the primaries, emphasizing that the NPP stands for unity, discipline and peaceful political engagement as it prepares for the next national elections.
