The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Tongu, Hon. Addison Dodzie Mornyie, has reaffirmed his commitment to completing abandoned development projects inherited from the previous administration, describing the move as critical to the district’s overall growth.
According to the DCE, the stalled or “legacy” projects include boreholes, Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, residential bungalows and several road construction works scattered across communities in the district.
Speaking in an interview, Hon. Mornyie explained that the projects are financed through the Government of Ghana’s District Assemblies Common Fund, making their completion a matter of responsibility rather than choice.
“These projects are funded by the government’s Common Fund. Some were started two to three years ago, and since the focus of this government is development, I will ensure that they are completed,” he stated.
He noted that work on the abandoned projects is progressing alongside new initiatives introduced after he assumed office in 2025, adding that several of the ongoing projects are nearing completion and will soon be commissioned for public use.
Hon. Mornyie used the opportunity to urge his fellow Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to remain committed to hard work and accountability in order to accelerate development at the local level.
In his concluding remarks, the Central Tongu DCE commended the performance of the current administration under President John Dramani Mahama, saying it has exceeded his expectations.
“I knew John Mahama was going to perform, but I did not know it was going to be this fantastic,” he said.
The DCE’s remarks reflect a renewed focus on development, accountability and the effective use of public funds in the Central Tongu District.
