Presidential Staffer for Special Initiatives, Nelson Ndebah Ndebugre, has intensified efforts to empower young people in Zebilla and other parts of the Upper East Region through education, employment and social support interventions.
The initiative forms part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama’s 2024 campaign commitment to create sustainable job opportunities for the youth. As part of this agenda, Ghana recently deployed 127 nurses to Antigua under a government-led programme aimed at providing young professionals with opportunities to work abroad.
Beneficiaries of the programme include youth from Kusaug, particularly the Bawku West District of Zebilla, alongside participants from other districts in the Upper East Region.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr Ndebugre reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, noting that equipping young people with opportunities and skills remains central to securing their future. He said he has remained consistent in supporting the youth over the past five years, especially during critical moments when encouragement and assistance are most needed.
In furtherance of his support for education, Mr Ndebugre on May 19, 2025, donated 1,500 mathematical sets to the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Bawku West District. The items were distributed to all Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates across 59 basic schools in the district.
According to him, the donation, though modest, was intended to remind the candidates that they are not alone as they prepare for an important milestone in their academic journey.
Beyond education, Mr Ndebugre’s support for the youth in Zebilla and the wider Upper East Region spans the payment of school fees, settlement of medical bills, provision of farm inputs, and the promotion of hardworking upcoming musicians from Kusaug and the region at large.
Residents of the Upper East Region have welcomed his continued interventions, expressing optimism that his commitment to youth empowerment will help create lasting opportunities and improve livelihoods.
