The Ghana Police Service and the Office of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability have agreed to collaborate on a joint initiative that positions sports as a strategic tool for advancing climate action and sustainability within the Police Service.
The partnership discussions followed a meeting convened by the Minister of State responsible for Climate Change and Sustainability, Hon. Seidu Issifu, who engaged the Director of Sports of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Bernice Timbilla, on opportunities for institutional collaboration.
Although the initial concept was introduced by the Minister, deliberations during the engagement led to the joint adoption of an expanded Sports–Climate Action framework proposed by ASP Timbilla. The framework integrates sports development, climate awareness and sustainable practices across the Ghana Police Service and was mutually endorsed by both institutions.
The initiative seeks to leverage police sports platforms to promote environmental responsibility and climate education, with a focus on green sports infrastructure, climate-smart sports event management, and community and youth engagement programmes driven through police sports disciplines.
Both institutions underscored the importance of collaborative leadership and co-creation, noting that the initiative reflects the Minister’s policy direction on climate change and the Ghana Police Service’s operational strength in sports development and community outreach.
Hon. Seidu Issifu welcomed the outcome of the engagement and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Ghana Police Service to align the initiative with national climate and sustainability priorities. ASP Bernice Timbilla, on her part, expressed appreciation to the Minister for initiating the engagement and emphasized the Service’s readiness to jointly implement the Sports–Climate Action agenda.
