Man arrested for attempting to sell three-year-old son

The Akwatia Police Command has arrested a man identified as Coffie Agyemang, a resident of Kwamang in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, for allegedly attempting to sell his three-year-old son for money.

Sources close to local media revealed that Coffie Agyemang had confided in a friend about his intention to sell the child, citing severe financial hardship as the reason behind the alleged plan.

According to the sources, the police were tipped off and subsequently posed as prospective buyers to monitor the situation. After negotiations, an amount of GHS1 million was allegedly agreed upon.

Coffie Agyemang reportedly brought his son to the agreed meeting location, where he was arrested by officers from the Akwatia Police Command.

Further information indicated that the suspect allegedly intended for the child to be killed for ritual purposes, after which the body would be returned to him to make it appear the child had been murdered elsewhere.

Attempts by local media to obtain official comments from the police were unsuccessful, as officers indicated that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
