NPP initiates process to expel Kwabena Frimpong Boateng

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng from the party following comments he made during a television interview.

In a statement dated January 13, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken note of remarks by Prof Frimpong Boateng on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, in which he described the party as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the NPP.

The party said Prof Frimpong Boateng went further to make disparaging comments about the NPP and alleged that its 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

The NPP unequivocally rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated. According to the party, the 2023 presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent and credible manner, a position it said was acknowledged by all candidates who participated and by party delegates.

The statement noted that the conduct and utterances of Prof Frimpong Boateng are considered highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity and integrity of the party.

Consequently, the NPP said it has invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the party, stressing that the process will be carried out in strict accordance with due process.
