The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Hon. Andrews Kojo Duodu, has toured key government institutions across the district, assuring staff of his commitment to addressing their challenges and improving service delivery.
The three-day tour covered several state agencies, including the District Education Directorate, University of Education Winneba (UEW) Ajumako Campus, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), District Police Command, District Health Directorate, District Magistrate Court, Department of Agriculture, and the National Identification Office.
At the District Education Directorate, Hon. Duodu pledged to support the completion of the office complex, which is about 80 per cent complete. He also promised to tackle teacher shortages, renovate the director’s bungalow, provide a monitoring vehicle, and stop land encroachment affecting education infrastructure.
District Education Director, Madam Sabina Aba Wilson, highlighted poor academic performance at the senior high school level, inadequate school infrastructure, and social activities such as festivals that disrupt teaching and learning. She also raised concerns about schoolchildren riding “pragya” tricycles and participating in festival floats, which she said contribute to teenage pregnancies and absenteeism.
In response, the DCE announced plans to introduce quizzes, debates, and reading festivals to improve academic performance. He further committed to recruiting more teachers, enforcing restrictions on children riding tricycles with police support, stopping football matches on school fields during class hours, and lobbying the Member of Parliament, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, for a school bus.
At the University of Education Winneba Ajumako Campus, the principal outlined challenges including declining student enrollment, poor inner roads, lack of an auditorium and modern library, an outdated clinic, and land encroachment by residents. Hon. Duodu assured management that road construction and clinic upgrades would be prioritized.
During a visit to the ECG Ajumako office, the DCE called for reduced power outages, describing electricity as the “heart of the country.” The ECG manager requested a substation and explained that some outages are caused by overgrown vegetation, while pledging improved maintenance.
Hon. Duodu said the institutional tour was aimed at identifying problems and finding practical solutions to position Ajumako Enyan Essiam as the leading district in the Central Region, stressing his commitment to resolving the challenges of all government institutions during his tenure.
