Why do some state CEOs and MDs receive higher salaries than the president? Ras Kuuku asks

Reggae/Dancehall artist Ras Kuuku has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the hefty monthly salaries of some state-owned enterprise Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Managing Directors (MD).

Reacting to the revelation that the former SIC Managing Director received a staggering GH¢70,000 monthly wage, Ras Kuuku questioned the fairness of such compensation packages, particularly when compared to the President’s salary.

The singer expressed his confusion and disappointment, wondering why the President, who holds the authority to appoint CEOs and MDs, receives a lower monthly salary than these appointees ¹.

“Seriously, if you read or hear some of the monthly salaries these State CEOs and MDs receive, it’s quite huge, but I don’t really know how much the President receives,” he said in a recent interview.

“Even if the President receives 25K, it’s nowhere close or compared to what these CEOs and MDs get because we are talking about some people who are taking 90K or more every month.

“But these CEOs and MDs are appointed by the President, so how come that they take more monthly salary than the one who gave them their position? I’m baffled,” he stated.

In a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz, Ras Kuuku expressed his confidence in his vocal abilities, stating that he deserves a nomination for Male Vocalist of the Year at the upcoming Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

The Atia singer, who won the 2020 TGMA Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, said he believed he was one of the best vocalists in the industry but has never made it onto the nomination list despite submitting entries for the past five years.
