The maiden edition of Miss Tourism Kwahu (MTK) has marked a significant milestone in Ghana’s tourism and cultural landscape, blending beauty, intelligence, and heritage into a powerful platform for change. Initiated by the Empowered Tradition and Culture Foundation Ghana, MTK is more than just a pageant it is a strategic movement aimed at promoting tourism from the grassroots level while empowering young women to become ambassadors of culture and development.
A Vision Rooted in Culture and Tourism
At its core, MTK seeks to discover, nurture, and empower young women to represent Kwahu and Ghana on a global stage. The initiative highlights the rich traditions, festivals, and hidden tourist attractions of Kwahu, positioning the area as a competitive destination for both local and international visitors. By combining storytelling, community engagement, and tourism advocacy, MTK is steadily redefining how culture can drive economic growth.
The Driving Force Behind MTK
The brain behind this transformative initiative, the Empowered Tradition and Culture Foundation Ghana, is a non-profit organization committed to youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and sustainable tourism development. Recognizing Kwahu’s untapped tourism potential, the foundation created MTK as a structured platform to promote community development while equipping young women with leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
Visionary Leadership and a Dedicated Team
The success of MTK is anchored in the leadership of Bright Owusu Asante and Carl Obeng Newman, whose passion and commitment brought the vision to life. From conceptualization to execution, their leadership ensured that the event achieved both cultural relevance and organizational excellence.
They were supported by a strong team including Lawrence Tweneboah-Kodua, who oversaw event coordination; Dorothy Abena Acheampong, who served as Contestant Coordinator, ensuring the effective management, welfare, and preparation of all contestants throughout the competition; and Henry Tetteh, who managed publicity and media engagement. Together, the team delivered a seamless and impactful maiden edition.
A Grand Stage in the Heart of Kwahu
The grand finale took place at the Obomeng Social Center, a venue chosen for its accessibility, capacity, and cultural significance. With the support of traditional leaders and the local community, the event attracted a vibrant audience, showcasing the unity and pride of the Kwahu people.
Celebrating Excellence: The Winner and Her Triumph
Emerging as the winner of MTK 2026 was Belinda Mireku, popularly known by her stage name Afua, from Aduamoa. Her exceptional performance, confidence, and deep cultural representation set her apart throughout the competition.
Her victory came with impressive rewards, including a brand-new car, GHS 5,000, and souvenirs. The first and second runners-up also received significant cash prizes, reflecting the organizers’ commitment to rewarding excellence and supporting contestants’ future aspirations.
Funding, Sponsorship, and the Need for Support
The event was primarily funded by ETCFG, with additional support from sponsors, partners, media houses, and Kwahu indigenes. Despite limited resources, the organizers successfully delivered a high-quality event.
Looking ahead, MTK is actively seeking partnerships with stakeholders such as the Ghana Tourism Authority, corporate organizations, and investors. There is also a strong call for support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to help scale the initiative and maximize its impact.
Transforming Kwahu Through Tourism
MTK has already made a notable impact by promoting hidden tourist sites, celebrating cultural heritage, and empowering young women. It has also drawn attention from investors and tourism stakeholders, positioning Kwahu as a rising destination—often described as the potential “Dubai of Ghana.”
Looking Ahead: A Bigger Future
The next edition of MTK promises to be even more inclusive and impactful, with community-based pageants, expanded training programs, and a grand finale scheduled for Easter Saturday 2027 at Obomeng. These developments aim to deepen community involvement and strengthen the platform’s reach.
Challenges and the Road Forward
Like many ambitious initiatives, MTK faced challenges such as limited funding and logistical constraints. However, the resilience and dedication of the team ensured its success.
With plans underway for projects like the Kwahu Tourism Village, MTK is poised to become a cornerstone of Ghana’s tourism development. The organizers continue to call on government bodies, corporate institutions, and the general public to support this vision.
Miss Tourism Kwahu is not just a pageant it is a movement. A movement that celebrates culture, empowers youth, and reimagines tourism as a tool for national development.
