Member of Parliament for Chianna-Paga, Nikyema-Billa Alamzy, says Ghana’s democracy must be safeguarded, regardless of which political party is in power. In an exclusive interview with Channel247’s Masopeh Jeremiah, Mr. Alamzy stressed that while his party may not support the New Patriotic Party (NPP), it does not wish for its collapse.
“We may not like the NPP, but we don’t pray that they break apart or go down,” he said, emphasizing that the fall of any major political party could have dire consequences for Ghana’s democratic system. Alamzy cited the example of the once-dominant Convention People’s Party (CPP), which has now faded into political obscurity.
Reflecting on the NPP’s future, the MP praised Patrick Boamah as a strong candidate capable of revitalizing the party. “If I were in the NPP, I’d vote for Patrick Boamah. He’s the best bet to reorganize the party,” he declared.

However, he made it clear that his stance remains neutral on the other leading figures within the NPP, such as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong. According to him, they are evenly matched and offer no significant difference in leadership potential.
“We don’t rate one above the other. Even if all of them are on the ballot paper, we believe we will beat them,” he added.
Alamzy’s comments come at a time the opposition NPP is working on rebuilding its base following a disastrous showing in the 2024 Presidential and parliamentary elections.
