Residents of Sabungari, a community in the Bawku Municipality, have renewed calls for justice following a deadly shooting incident that occurred during curfew hours on December 22, 2025.
At a press conference held in the community, grieving family members, traditional leaders, and youth groups expressed anger and frustration over the incident, which claimed several lives and left others critically injured. The tragedy has left a number of households shattered, with widows and orphaned children now struggling to cope with the aftermath.
Speaking on behalf of the families, Joseph Apambilla described the incident as a painful blow to a community known for its peaceful and law-abiding nature. He stressed that residents will not relent until those responsible are held accountable, calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.
A youth activist, Iddrisu Ayongo, drew attention to the plight of a surviving child who lost family members in the attack and is now facing significant hardship. He appealed to government and relevant authorities to intervene and support the child’s education, noting that urgent assistance is needed to secure his future.
The chief of the area, Naba Akuoli Mamudu (Billia Tiewin), also urged government to take decisive action against individuals responsible for violence in the community. He emphasized the need to restore peace and ensure that such incidents do not recur.
Meanwhile, youth leader Mohammed Aruk Issaku called on security agencies to expedite action against a suspect already arrested in connection with the killings. He further appealed to the youth to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
The Sabungari community continues to demand justice and meaningful support for affected families, as residents grapple with the emotional and social impact of the tragedy.
