President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to immediately investigate allegations of improper practices in the award of overseas scholarships, following claims made by former National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) Chief Executive Officer, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah.
The directive comes after a radio discussion aired on Sompa 106.5 FM, during which Mr Ofosu Nkansah alleged that an individual paid money to secure a scholarship to pursue studies abroad. The discussion, conducted in the Twi language, has since gained wide public circulation and attracted significant public attention.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, the President described the allegations as serious and of grave public concern, particularly in light of the government’s stated commitment to transparency, integrity and equal access to educational opportunities.
According to the statement, the President has instructed the NIB to investigate the allegations, establish their factual basis, identify any persons involved and determine the veracity or otherwise of the claims made during the radio programme.
The Bureau has further been directed to submit its findings to the President for consideration and for any appropriate action that may arise from the outcome of the investigations.
Mr Ofosu Nkansah, a former NEIP CEO, has been a prominent public figure and has previously featured in national discourse on governance and accountability matters. However, government sources stress that the current directive is solely focused on the scholarship allegations raised during the radio discussion.
The Presidency reiterated its commitment to ensuring fairness and accountability in the administration of government-sponsored educational opportunities.
