A team of police officers from the National Highway Police Patrol, while on duty at Dzrakate, a community near Akatsi on the Accra-Aflao highway, has arrested two suspects found in possession of a consignment believed to be human blood without proper authorization.
The suspects, identified as 34-year-old teacher Winnie Agbofoatsi Kwesi and 38-year-old contractor Morgan Martins, have been charged with the unlawful possession of human parts/blood, in violation of Section 69B of the Criminal Offences (Amendment) Act, 2012 (Act 29/60).
Sources from the Ghana News Agency (GNA) have disclosed that on Sunday, February 9, at approximately 12:00 PM, a patrol team intercepted a Toyota Corolla with registration number GW 2837-19 traveling from Accra towards Aflao.
Upon conducting a search, officers discovered three plastic containers containing suspected human blood, with the contact number of Winnie Agbofoatsi written on the contents. During interrogation, the driver admitted that he had been given the items in Tema and was instructed to deliver them to Agbofoatsi at Agbozume.
The source further revealed that Agbofoatsi was arrested with the help of the driver, who confessed that he had received the blood from Morgan Martins, explaining that this was the second such delivery from Tema.
Agbofoatsi further admitted that his task was to deliver the human blood to a fetish priest in Lome, Togo.
Martins, the second suspect, later presented himself at the Akatsi Police Station to resolve the matter and was arrested and cautioned, where he also confessed to the crime.
Both suspects have been remanded by the Akatsi District Court and are scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday, February 20. Investigations into the case are ongoing by the Akatsi Police.
Meanwhile, another suspect, whose identity is being withheld, remains at large.
