PHOTOS: 3 Killed in attempted gold robbery incident at Ntotroso

Three persons have been confirmed dead following an alleged attempt to steal gold at the Newmont Mining Site at Ntotroso in the Ahafo Region.

The police said four other persons also sustained injuries during the incident.

The incident occurred last Wednesday night when the police confronted the suspects during their operation to contain the situation, leading to the death of the three
persons and injuries to four other people.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi.

Calm restored “The Ghana Police Service has restored calm at Ntotroso in the Ahafo Region following an attempted breach of security at the Newmont Mining Site
by some persons to allegedly steal gold last night, Wednesday, January 8,2025,” it said.

It said the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, worked on the phone with the Ahafo Regional Police team to engage community leaders and the youth
throughout the night till yesterday morning to stabilise the situation.

The statement said there had been no reprisal attacks or escalation of the situation in the community.

It said a special investigation team from Accra had been sent to the area to investigate the incident, while a reinforcement team had also been sent to the community to help ensure that
there was peace, security, law and order.

The police said they had received information that the deceased were Muslims, and the due process of the law had been followed for the bodies to be released to their families for burial later yesterday.

The statement urged the public to remain calm as the police continued to work to ensure law and order prevailed.
