NPP’s abysmal performance provoked Ghanaians – Suhuyini

Alhassan Suhuyini, the Member of Parliament for Tamale North, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the recent elections to their poor performance, which he claims angered many Ghanaians.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, now president-elect John Mahama secured a landslide win in the December 7 elections.

Mahama polled over six million votes while the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia got a little over four million votes. The NDC has also secured a majority in parliament with over 180 seats.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, Suhuyini emphasised that the NPP’s governance left much to be desired, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the electorate.

Despite this, he urged the NDC to move past the funfair and understand the responsibility placed on them by Ghanaians

“It is a victory that requires reflection. The funfair should be over by now. We need to understand the level of responsibility that has been placed on his excellency the President’s shoulders and by extension the shoulders of the NDC. The margin of victory should not let us lose sight of the fact that expectation is also that high.

“Yes, the NPP was abysmal in government. Their style of leadership in many instances provoked people and I am sure it is that provocation that has manifested in the endorsement that the NDC got,” he stated.
