The District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Dayi, Hon. Ernest Addevor, has donated business and welfare items to 47 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the district, reaffirming his commitment to inclusive development and social protection.
The presentation was made at a brief ceremony in the district and marks the second time Hon. Addevor has extended such support since assuming office in June 2025.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the DCE pledged to ensure that the legally mandated portion of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) allocated to persons with disabilities is used strictly for its intended purpose.
“It is my duty to make sure persons living with disabilities in the district are well taken care of with their quota of the District Assemblies Common Fund. I will ensure it is used for its intended purpose. I will not allow anyone to divert it for anything else apart from supporting my friends living with disabilities,” he stated.
Hon. Addevor explained that the items distributed were provided based on the specific needs and requests of the beneficiaries, following consultations with them.
“We are not imposing these items on them. We asked them what they wanted, and we are giving them exactly what they requested for,” he added.
He cautioned beneficiaries against selling the items, warning that anyone found doing so would be apprehended and sanctioned accordingly. According to him, beneficiaries have been trained in business management and sustainability, with technical experts available to offer continuous guidance.
“They have been trained on how to manage and sustain their respective businesses. Our experts are always available to guide them whenever they face challenges. Anyone caught selling the items will be apprehended and dealt with,” he warned.
The DCE also called on the general public to desist from discriminating against persons with disabilities or using derogatory language toward them, noting that such actions negatively affect their mental health and self-confidence.
“We must stop discriminating against PWDs and calling them names. They are human beings, and it is not their fault they find themselves in such situations. Insulting words only harm their mental health and reduce their self-confidence,” he emphasized.
Items distributed included deep freezers, industrial sewing machines, fufu pounding machines, fertilizers, wheelchairs, plastic chairs, educational support materials, and other livelihood-enhancing tools.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the DCE for the support and pledged to use the items to improve their livelihoods and living conditions.
