NDC congratulates NPP on peaceful presidential primaries

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the successful organization of a peaceful and violence-free presidential primary that produced former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the December 2028 general election  .

In a statement issued by its National Secretariat in Accra on February 1, 2026, the NDC commended the conduct of the exercise and praised the Ghana Police Service for what it described as a professional and efficient security operation throughout the process  .

The opposition party said the calm atmosphere that characterized the primaries reflects Ghana’s growing democratic maturity and underscored the importance of collaboration among political parties in strengthening the country’s democracy  .

The NDC also acknowledged the concession statements made by candidates who were unsuccessful in the contest, expressing the hope that such reconciliatory gestures would translate into unity within the NPP going forward  .

The statement was signed by the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, and issued from Accra.
