No Campaigning At NPP Delegates Conference- Joe Wise

Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Conference Planning Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise, has announced that the party’s upcoming National Delegates Conference will take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Speaking to the media after Thursday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the party’s headquarters, Joe Wise outlined key arrangements and measures being put in place for the conference.

“All activities related to the conference will be held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. We anticipate that issues relating to COVID-19 may arise, so we have prepared adequately,” he said. “The party’s Health Committee has taken all necessary precautions and will provide guidance to ensure there are no incidents of COVID during the event.”

He also addressed public concerns over the choice of venue, following reports of COVID-19 cases at the university. “We are aware of those concerns. That’s why the Health Committee has taken all critical steps to ensure the safety of all participants,” he assured.

According to Joe Wise, the primary purpose of the conference is to consider and vote on proposed amendments to the NPP Constitution. “The 300-page document containing the proposed changes has been circulated to all regions and is intended to reach the constituencies. There’s also a summarized version of about 64 pages,” he said. “However, delegates will be called upon to take decisions based on motions distilled from those documents.”

He emphasized that delegates are expected to review and discuss the motions beforehand, as the conference itself will focus strictly on decision-making.

The conference, he noted, is strictly for delegates. “Only accredited delegates will be allowed into the inner area where the actual business of the conference will take place. Though a few exceptions may be made, this is a constitutional matter, and those who are not entitled to vote will not be allowed to interfere.”

In a decisive move to prevent the conference from turning into a campaign platform, Joe Wise made it clear that no form of presidential campaign material will be tolerated within the venue.

“We will not allow posters, T-shirts, billboards, or banners of any aspirants. Anyone who breaches this directive will be removed immediately by our security personnel,” he warned.

On media arrangements, Joe Wise disclosed that a dedicated media village will be set up to ensure proper coverage. “We intend to provide a unified feed to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting. The secretary to the committee will provide the details to the media houses.”

He concluded by reiterating the party’s commitment to a smooth, safe, and focused national conference.
