Ministry warns against digital sexual exploitation after viral reports

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has cautioned the public against digital sexual exploitation following reports involving a foreign national who allegedly engaged in sexual activities with some Ghanaian women and recorded and circulated the acts without consent.

In a statement dated February 14, 2026, the Ministry described the alleged non-consensual recording and distribution of intimate images as a criminal offence and a violation of dignity and privacy.

According to the Ministry, preliminary information suggests the individual may not currently be within Ghana’s jurisdiction. However, it stressed that the seriousness of the alleged conduct remains unchanged and authorities are pursuing accountability through all lawful means, including international cooperation and mutual legal assistance.

The Ministry noted that even before the incident, it had been working with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Innovations and other relevant agencies on measures to prevent and respond to image-based sexual abuse. These efforts include digital safety interventions, engagement with online platforms, and mechanisms for reporting and removing abusive content.

MoGCSP added that it is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service, security institutions and international partners to address the matter and ensure justice for victims.

Support services such as psychosocial care and legal assistance are also being coordinated through confidential channels to protect victims’ privacy and wellbeing. The Ministry further reminded the public to exercise caution in both online and offline interactions.

It also encouraged victims and the public to report abuse through toll-free helplines: 0800-800-800, 0800-900-900, and 0800-111-222.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, safety and dignity of all persons and ensuring that jurisdictional limits do not prevent appropriate action.
