Ministry of Sports and Recreation denies claims over Germany travel sponsorship

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has firmly rejected claims circulating on social media that the Minister for Sports and Recreation sponsored individuals to travel to Germany with business class tickets for upcoming Black Stars friendly matches.

In an official statement issued on March 29, 2026, the Ministry described the allegations as false and without any basis. The clarification follows a viral video suggesting that some individuals seen at the airport were beneficiaries of a sponsored trip linked to the Minister.

According to the Ministry, the individuals captured in the video are not known to the Minister. It explained that they were simply Ghanaians he briefly encountered in the departure tunnel at the airport while boarding his flight. The interaction, the statement noted, was casual and typical of public engagements involving government officials.

The Ministry further clarified that the Minister travelled alone on an official assignment to engage the Black Stars team and its technical staff ahead of their international friendly matches in Germany. It stressed that no staff members or delegation accompanied him on the trip.

Addressing the sponsorship claims directly, the Ministry stated that no individual was sponsored, facilitated, or upgraded by either the Minister or the Ministry. It added that no public funds, whether from the national budget or corporate sponsorship, were committed to support any fan travel arrangements for the matches.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ministry has not made any arrangements or provided any support for fan participation or travel in any form,” the statement emphasized.

The Ministry has therefore urged the public to disregard what it described as misleading narratives being circulated online, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of public resources.
