The District Chief Executive (DCE) for South Dayi, Kokroko Courage Kwami, says the first year of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration has exceeded expectations, citing significant progress in infrastructure, health, education, agriculture and sanitation across the district.
Speaking in an interview, Hon. Courage said while he was confident President Mahama would deliver on his campaign promises, the pace and scale of development within just one year have been “marvelous.”
According to him, most legacy projects earmarked for the district by the government have already been completed, with only two currently under construction. He noted that these projects are being funded through a combination of GETFund allocations and the District Assembly Common Fund.
In the health sector, the DCE disclosed that three Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, each with workers’ quarters, are currently under construction. He added that several existing health centres in the district are also undergoing rehabilitation to improve healthcare delivery.
Touching on agriculture, Hon. Courage announced that two truckloads of fertilizer are expected to be distributed to farmers in the district to boost productivity. He said additional support plans are underway to provide farmers with fertilizers, tractors and other essential farming equipment.
On education, the DCE explained that scholarship matters are handled by the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Hon. Rockson Dafeamekpor, while the District Assembly focuses on infrastructure and logistics. He revealed that the assembly is contributing to the construction of 3-unit, 6-unit and 12-unit classroom blocks across the district.
“The MP has awarded scholarships to qualified students, and the application portal is still open for new applicants,” he said. “The assembly has also distributed 42 tables and chairs to head teachers, with an additional 80 expected to be distributed next week.”
In terms of roads and infrastructure, Hon. Courage said construction works are ongoing on several township roads, with adjoining roads expected to be tackled soon. He explained that the contracts were awarded by the MP and contractors are already on site.
He further disclosed that 21 two-bedroom affordable housing units are currently under construction to help address accommodation challenges in the district. Additionally, he said contracts are expected to be awarded by the end of February 2026 for the construction of a 40-unit lockable store at the Kpeve market.
Concluding the interview, the DCE emphasized that sanitation will be a top priority going forward, expressing confidence that South Dayi will become the cleanest district in the country by the end of 2026.
