Localised COVID-19 Case At University of Ghana Confirmed by GHS

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed a localised resurgence of COVID-19 cases within the University of Ghana community, urging the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive protocols.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, June 26, the outbreak remains limited to the university campus, and all reported cases so far are mild with no hospital admissions.

The GHS is actively working with university authorities to contain the situation and assess ongoing response measures.

While the World Health Organisation no longer classifies COVID-19 as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, the GHS emphasised that the pandemic is not over, noting that sporadic and seasonal outbreaks are expected worldwide.

“In recent weeks, an uptick in COVID-19 cases has been observed, currently limited to the University of Ghana community,” the statement read.

It added: “GHS is actively collaborating with the University authorities to contain the outbreak and review measures in response to the evolving situation.”

As part of ongoing national surveillance efforts, the GHS, in partnership with the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), continues to monitor influenza and COVID-19 trends across all 16 regions of the country.
