The Ministry of Health has ordered a full investigation into allegations raised in an investigative report by The Fourth Estate on the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Ministry said it has taken note of the report, which has been widely circulated on social media, and expressed concern over some of the revelations contained in it.
The Ministry sympathised with patients and relatives who may have been subjected to unprofessional conduct in any health facility across the country, reiterating government’s commitment to reducing the stress and financial burden patients face in accessing healthcare.
According to the statement, the issues raised in the report are considered serious and deserving of thorough examination. As a result, the Ministry is in the process of constituting an investigative committee to look into the matter.
The committee is expected to submit its findings within fourteen working days. The Ministry has also called on all relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to fully cooperate with the investigation to help unravel the facts, ensure accountability, and improve service delivery within the health system.
The statement was signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health.
