The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has interdicted five officers of its Customs Division with immediate effect following discrepancies detected in a transit cargo consignment declared for onward movement to Niger.
The action, according to a press release issued by the Authority on February 24, 2026, forms part of an internal investigation into suspected breaches of established transit procedures.
The decision stems from preliminary findings arising out of an enforcement operation conducted on February 18, 2026. The operation reportedly uncovered inconsistencies in documentation and compliance requirements relating to a consignment of transit cargo, prompting a detailed internal review.
Management of the GRA indicated that initial assessments point to potential procedural lapses that require further independent and comprehensive examination. The ongoing investigation is expected to establish the full facts, including the extent of any individual involvement and possible departures from laid-down Customs protocols.
The Authority noted that additional officers may be invited to assist with the probe where necessary. It added that upon completion of the process, appropriate administrative actions would be taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Reassuring stakeholders and the general public, the GRA emphasized that the interdiction reflects its commitment to safeguarding national revenue, supporting local industries and promoting overall economic development.
The Authority further reiterated its resolve to ensure that revenue collection and enforcement procedures are carried out with the highest standards of professionalism, transparency and accountability.
