Endorsements alone not enough without grassroots work – Tutu-Boahene

Political communications and marketing specialist, Dr. Bernard Tutu-Boahene, says endorsements alone will not secure victory for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia unless they are backed by effective grassroots mobilisation.

Speaking on Channel 247’s 247 Newsroom Live with host Awuraabena Boateng, Dr. Tutu-Boahene described the recent endorsement of Dr. Bawumia by 118 former New Patriotic Party parliamentary aspirants as a positive development for his campaign.

According to him, the endorsements add to Dr. Bawumia’s existing support base and could influence undecided delegates, especially those yet to firm up their choices ahead of the party’s internal contest.

Dr. Tutu-Boahene explained that such declarations can have psychological effects on delegates who may want to align with what they perceive as a winning team, while the influence of some former aspirants could also sway votes in their constituencies.

However, he cautioned that public declarations of support must be matched with action on the ground. He stressed that the endorsers should actively campaign in their respective constituencies rather than wait for the candidate to visit.

“These are people who have had influence in their constituencies before, and that influence must be brought to bear within the limited time left,” he noted, adding that with about 23 days to go, effective grassroots engagement is critical.

Dr. Tutu-Boahene also dismissed concerns about the previous electoral losses of some of the endorsers, stating that their ability to mobilise support remains valuable to the campaign.

On recent prophecies circulating on social media about possible shifts in support, he maintained that political decisions should be guided by strategy and mobilisation rather than religious predictions.
