Ekumfi MP Defends Mahama’s Economic Vision, Says Current Leadership is ‘Resetting Ghana’

Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, has lauded President John Mahama’s current leadership, describing it as a deliberate effort to “reset Ghana” and place the country on a renewed path to prosperity.

In an exclusive interview with Channel 247’s Jeremiah Masopeh, Dr. Kwainoe contrasted the economic performance under the previous administration with the direction now being charted by President Mahama.

“Exchange rate of 7.0 if I recall, interest rates almost 40%, inflation hit 54% before dropping to around 30% — and our fiscal deficit was about 7.9%. I mean, clearly, I don’t know which of those numbers they [the opposition] want to own, so maybe someone can educate me a bit more,” he stated.

Dr. Kwainoe praised President Mahama’s decision to cut the size of government as a major step toward responsible governance and reduced expenditure.

“One of our biggest challenges was expenditure, and he made a bold move by cutting down ministers from over 120 to just 60. This is serious business — unprecedented in the Fourth Republic,” he emphasized.

He added that beyond structural changes, Mahama’s leadership has restored hope across all levels of governance. “Today, even assembly members have hope. The exchange rate is stabilizing. This is not business as usual. This is a deliberate reset.”

Dr. Kwainoe concluded by affirming that the new administration is focused on long-term solutions, not cosmetic fixes, and urged Ghanaians to give their full support to the reforms underway.
