An Awutu Ofaakor Circuit Court has remanded 14 persons, including 12 alleged fake National Security operatives and two suspected landguards, over the unlawful demolition of more than 60 buildings at Gomoa Akoti in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
Presiding judge, Her Honour Nana Asantewaa Attakorah, ordered that the accused persons be kept in police custody pending further investigations. They are expected to reappear before the court on March 4, 2026.
The suspects were arrested by the Gomoa Ojobi District Police Command after reports that they had stormed the area and pulled down several buildings that were under construction. Prosecutors say the group allegedly posed as National Security officers and used force to evict lawful landowners and developers from their parcels of land.
The 14 accused persons are facing four charges: conspiracy to commit crime, use of force and violence to evict lawful occupants, causing fear and panic, and preventing developers from accessing their property.
The demolitions, which reportedly affected more than 60 structures, left several property owners counting their losses. Some of the victims, who were present in court, expressed relief at the remand of the suspects and called for swift justice.
Meanwhile, traditional authorities in Gomoa Akoti have appealed to the police to intensify efforts to rid the area of landguards and individuals engaging in unlawful land-related activities. They urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
