The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has criticised the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing it of implementing policies that have negatively affected cocoa farmers.
According to Ahiagbah, cocoa farmers would not have experienced what he described as a “crude haircut” under an NPP administration. He argued that the NPP remains committed to protecting the interests of farmers and ensuring that such financial losses do not occur.
“While we support them and advocate for them, it is an inherent promise and commitment that this will never happen,” he said. “If it were under an NPP government, cocoa farmers would not see these crude haircuts.”
Ahiagbah further accused the NDC of failing to deliver on key promises, particularly in the area of youth employment. He noted that unemployment among young people is worsening, contrary to expectations raised during the party’s campaign.
“You don’t need any soothsayer to tell you that conditions are worsening. The youth can’t find jobs,” he stated.
He referenced a recent recruitment exercise at the Air Force Base in Accra, where large crowds of job seekers gathered, leading to a tragic incident that reportedly resulted in the deaths of some applicants. Ahiagbah blamed the situation on what he described as the NDC’s inability to create adequate employment opportunities.
“Many who voted in good faith are now regretting their decision,” he added, insisting that the NPP would prioritise job creation and economic stability if given the mandate.
